It intrigues me how light elevates a commonplace landscape to an extaordinary one. I strive for my paintings to be a lyrical account of that unique fleeting moment in time.
After receiving my degree in Art from Montana State University, I focused on drawing from the live model for many years. Then, desiring a more painterly approach, I found pastel to be a wonderful link between drawing and painting. I'm primarily a studio landscape painter, however over the past few years have been determined to unravel the mystery of plein air (painting outdoors in natural light).
After a recent trip to Tuscany, I'm presently working on paintings of the Italian countryside. I still continue to draw from the figure, most interested in quick gestural sketches with dramatic markmaking.
