ART BY PAT ROSENTHAL

"I can’t draw or play a musical instrument, but I still get to feel like a talented artist through fiber art."

For the past 15 years Pat has been involved in quiltmaking and creative fiber art. She has produced more than 150 art quilts and exhibited at juried and judged shows across the U.S. Her art quilts have been finalist at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza, International Quilt Association – Quilts: A world of Beauty, Pacific International Quilt Festival, Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival X, Great Pacific Northwest Quilt Show, American Quilt Society 2000 Quilt Exposition, Central Washington State Fair and Western Washington State Fair. At Quilt Hawaii IX she taught a short class on fiber art.

Her studio is a shared family room where she creates small doll pins, fabric bowls, pillow covers, fabric covered origami gift boxes and other small fabric treasures using supplies from her quilt/fabric stash. When Pat is not home creating her version of a quilt she is likely on vacation with her husband of 34 years. She has visited many exotic places described in National Geographic such as Machu Pichu, Vanuatu, and the great pyramids of Egypt to name a few destinations.

Pat’s most recent involvement in quilting has combined her sewing skills and her commitment to make this world a better place. Four years ago she helped start a successful quilt auction in Gig Harbor, Washington to benefit breast cancer research and breast cancer survivors. Pat raised nearly 20% of the first $60,000 the auction raised..
Quilters can change the world in small and large ways.

I make quilts because I can’t stop making them! I love fabric, beads and threads and feathers and trims. Most of all, I love color; bright primary colors, soft hand dyed colors, sharp black and white and the colors of nature. The process begins when I fall in love with a fabric and begin to consider how to manipulate it to show the feelings I have for a special idea I want to explore. My quilts and smaller fiber pieces are meant as a feast for the eyes. My fabric projects are the way I share the creative, humorous, contemplative parts of my soul. When I travel I try to remember the color and styles I see to use later in one of my memory quilts.
