I have been a life long resident of Pierce County and I do landscape maintenance for a living. I Started out my profession by helping my grandparents around their home and rental properties at age 10. Since then I have worked for Tacoma City Light, and 2 other companies for 9 years before starting my own business, Old Town Professional Grounds Maintenance in 1995.
I started creating my custom rock planters and Bonsai style plants 18 yrs ago as a hobby where I made them for gifts for family and friends. I also donated many over the years to fundraiser's such as Send-A-Vet Foundation, Memorial Auctions & Fundraiser's , Swiss Sportsmen Club, Festival of Tree among others. I recently started to sell them at the Gig Harbor Tidefest art show to expand my hobby and to share my love of this living art for the last 3 years. This year I have decided once again to show off this unique art in another way by joining the Gig Harbor Open Studio Art Tour.
You will find several different species of plants and sizes at my studio. Some of the plants that I choose to work with are Mugo Pines, various Boxwoods, Junipers, Azaleas, Maples and several other types of plants that I feel lend them selves well to this art form. Each rock is hand selected, cut and drilled to show case the best viewing option for the plant chosen. Sizes range from approximately a large basketball to over 6 ft and meant to be the main focal point of your landscape or water feature.
Please stop by as I will be creating new art during the weekend to show what goes into making these and answering questions you may have or would like something special created for your home or other location.
